Dana Aaberg

About the Artist:

With a passion for design, photography, and artwork, Dana Aaberg reaches across various disciplines to engage and influence with images that convey meaning and evoke emotion. Cutting his teeth in various media markets, from Boston, to Chicago, to Bozeman he analyzes criteria and develops design solutions to connect client needs with unique ideas and strategic solutions.

With a degree in Professional Design and an emphasis on Communication Design, Aaberg has worked as a Graphic Designer, Art Director, and Illustrator. With this license to create, Aaberg brings more than ideas, he leaves an indelible mark on each project and brings an array of solutions to each client.

Ongoing training includes relief print making in Oaxaca and sculpture studies with Rod Zullo in Bozeman. At the Woodstock School of Art, he completed advanced coursework in both painting and drawing – including Master Classes with Dean Keller. He completed a fine arts residency studying and presenting encaustic painting at Byrdcliffe in Woodstock. Additional formal studies include oil painting programs at the Scottsdale Artists School. He has trained in process painting with Michelle Cassou in Taos. His early commercial illustration featured traditional airbrushing with hand-cut stencils.

Art Sales

His "In Balance" sculpture, was commissioned for Fish Tales illustrations of Short Stories in Big Sky Journal, Bozeman Mt. His artwork was commissioned for a renovation of the Lion House at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. His poster art, "Duck Soup & Trumpeter Swan", was distributed commercially by Bruce McGraw Graphics in New York, as well as by Image Conscious in San Francisco. He created some original art work for Polar Bears International. Collaborated with Orthopedic Surgeon Ron Losee producing medical illustrations and display for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, San Francisco. Commemorative design work includes creating the official Bozeman 100 Years poster art.

Awards

Featured alumnus in the Fifty Years of Designers book at MSU Bozeman. Best of Show Award, Photography, Old Main Gallery, Bozeman. Public recognition includes winning the People's Choice Award for MSU Photo Show. Winner, Exploring Life Art for the Marine Biological Laboratories in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Design Award from the Creative Club of Boston. Also named as a literary citation in "Doc Then and Now" with a Montana Physician. Winner, Exploring Life Art for the Marine Biological Laboratories in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Festival honors winning the official Sweet Pea Poster contest in Bozeman, MT.

Exhibitions

At the Codgers Show, hosted by the Centro Cultural de Ajijic, he received 1st and 3rd place awards in Mixed Media. In 2024, Dana participated in an Ajijic Studio Tour. His "In Balance" sculpture was presented by Old Main Gallery in Bozeman, MT. Showcases include fine art presentations at the Center For Art and Culture and Frameworks Gallery in Livingston, Montana. Multiple regional exhibitions include fine art displays and art walks at the Emerson Cultural Center in Bozeman. International venue include participation in oil painting workshop and show in Provence, France. Digital Images with marble dust transfers were featured at Water Works Art Museum in Miles City, Montana. Gallery showing of figures in oil at the Main Stope Gallery in Butte.
